Gun Violence Will Never End Until We Address the Root Cause
I recently read an opinion piece titled “The Guns Are The Problem”, which caused me to write the following. Of course, people with even half a brain know that guns are inanimate objects and have never harmed anyone or anything. Let’s talk about the real problem.
Every time tragedy strikes, the world scrambles to explain why. Politicians call for new laws that only infringe further on the rights of law-abiding citizens. Activists demand tighter restrictions. Communities grieve and ask, “When will it stop?” Yet one truth rarely makes it to the headlines: gun violence—or any violence—will never truly end until we deal with the root of the problem.
The root cause isn’t the firearm. It isn’t the magazine size. It isn’t a lack of background checks. The root cause is far deeper than legislation can touch. The Bible tells us plainly: “The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?” (Jeremiah 17:9). Man is a sinner, and sin left unchecked always leads to destruction.
A Heart Problem, Not Just a Social Problem
Guns don’t pull their own triggers. People do. And until people’s hearts are changed, the cycle of violence will continue. When a person is consumed by anger, jealousy, hatred, and rebellion, these inward sins eventually manifest in outward actions. Without a new heart, humanity will continue to find new ways to commit the same old evil.
Jesus Christ offers that new heart. Only through Him can the brokenness within be replaced by peace, forgiveness, and love. This isn’t just religious talk—it’s the only real solution to the chaos we see played out in our streets and schools.

Where the Treatment Must Begin
If the disease is sin, then the treatment must begin where character is first formed: the home. Parents have the first responsibility to teach their children right from wrong, to instill in them respect for life, and most importantly, to point them to Christ. A strong home, rooted in biblical truth, is the greatest preventative measure against violence.
But it cannot stop at home alone. Our school systems also play a powerful role in shaping minds. As a matter of fact, they might play a larger role than parents since they have more access to the kids than parents. For too long, schools have stripped God from classrooms, leaving students adrift with no moral compass. We teach them to solve math equations, but fail to teach them the value of human life. If morality and faith are ignored, how can we expect anything but confusion and chaos to grow?
Laws Can Restrain, but Only Christ Can Transform
Yes, laws have their place. Governments are called to restrain evil (Romans 13). But laws cannot change the human heart. They may deter crime temporarily, but they cannot erase hatred or selfishness from within. Only the transforming power of the Gospel can do that.
Until we as a nation stop pretending that violence is merely a political or social issue, we will never see lasting change. Until we face the reality that man is a sinner in need of a Savior, we will continue to patch symptoms instead of curing the disease.
The Way Forward
If we truly want to stop the plague of gun violence, we must start at the root. We must return to God. We must strengthen the home and invite Christ back into our schools. We must acknowledge that no policy can fix what only Jesus can heal.
The hope is not in Washington. The hope is not in legislation. The hope is in Christ alone. When He changes hearts, He changes lives—and when enough lives are changed, society itself can be transformed.
Until then, the violence will continue, and I am going to encourage you to consider taking steps to make sure you never become a victim. Take both a firearms class and a personal defense class. No, they are not the same. Oh, and if at all possible, get your kids out of the public school system and either homeschool or send them to a church school.

As usual, you nailed it.
