Lead free, frangible and deadly! Liberty Civil Defense personal defense ammunition

Let me start off by saying that I do not know anyone at Liberty nor have I been ask or paid to advertise by any third party or ask to say what I am going to say about this product. I simply feel that when you find a product that you appreciate and use it should be shared with others. I first saw Liberty ammunition tested on one of the police sites back in 2014. I do not impress easily with new ammunition and the hype that goes with it. I remember however the results of the tests were convincing enough to cause me to give them a try. After all 1900fps from a 45acp was an awesome accomplishment to me.

I have watched the Facebook warriors debate and ridicule Liberty’s claims, they have called it hype and a few other choice words. Of course reading through the different posts one quickly realizes like most people that curse a 1911…they don’t own one, never shot one or if they have not over a dozen times and have also never shot Liberty ammunition. Ok, so let the flaming begin because I can take it lol.

The first thing I noticed when I loaded my compact 1911 mag was how light it was. I am not a technical kind of guy so things like weighing empty and loaded mags to prove a point I do not do. However, I can tell you this. With a loaded mag of Federal Hydra-Shok in one hand and a loaded mag of Liberty Civil Defense in the other there was a very noticeable difference. Seeing that I carry everyday, all day at work and at home this was a plus for me.

How was the recoil you ask. The recoil was noticeably less than the 230gr I was accustomed to shooting. So much less that I loaded my wife’s (who is also my shooting partner) Sig P938 with it also. She also noticed the difference in weight.

Watch the video below by the Military Channel where they test Liberty Civil Defense against Body Armor.

Recently my wife decided to start carrying a Sig P238 mainly because Mr. Arthur Ritis was beginning to be a real annoyance to her. She decided on the Sig P238 (380) because it is basically the same size and weight as her P938 which is 9mm, functions the same and she is already familiar with running it. The P938 is the easiest semi-auto I have ever racked the slide on. I am not one that thinks you should go down in caliber but I am a firm believer that a small caliber pistol in the hands of someone that can run it correctly is far superior to a large caliber that one cannot control in a life and death situation. That is why my wife carries Liberty Civil Defense in her P238. We both feel it gives the 380 auto a real boost.

Finally I can say for sure that seeing a 45acp round remove the head of a very nasty rattle snake while coiled and rattling convinced me that this round is nasty (in a good way). My dog had a rattler at bay and he was coiled in a very nice coil. I shot him in the head and at the angle I hit him it removed his head and took four coils which equaled to about five inches of tissue and the results were eye opening. The snake just exploded.

I hope I never have to use my pistol in self defense shooting but if I do I want to win. I believe Liberty increases my odds due to the way it fragments and creates multiple wound channels. More on that in the video below. Liberty Civil Defense is available at most gun stores or direct from the factory.

  1. I completely agree. I carry Liberty in ALL of my guns as my defense ammo. I think it’s great for ladies for all 3 reasons you stated: it’s light weight, it has less recoil, and it gets the job done!
