Anyway you look at it teaching handgun and personal defense classes to people is purely a passion. This past Saturday was no exception. It was simply fun and rewarding to be able to share the basics of safe handgun handling and shooting with new comers as well as experienced shooters.
I am always amazed at how enthusiastic the people that attend our classes are. They are quick to encourage each other and applaud loudly when a new shooter shoots well. As the world continues its downward spiral it is with great pleasure to teach and share with people who have decided that they will take responsibility for their own personal safety.
Just a reminder that EHP (Every Home Protected) is a concept that was put together by BamaCarry members to help ensure everyone is more secure in their homes and in their person. It transcends locale. It is knowledge and skill that goes with you everywhere you go.
Saturday was a real joy to have NRA Instructor Wayne Bagwell help with the class. He comes to most classes and helps because he has a real passion for helping others. His help is invaluable at range time as it makes the range safer with him here to help watch and help answer questions.
We also had another NRA instructor there, Elizabeth Ortero. Elizabeth and her father drove up from the Montgomery area to sit in on the class. She is considering teaching the EHP material in her area of the state in the future. Elizabeth owns Mama Bear Defensive Gear. Visit her website and Facebook page. She is a real expert in ladies concealed carry products and is more than able to answer questions about concealed carry products for women. Elizabeth also assisted shooters at the range and I can’t thank her enough for her help. David, her father was a real joy to become acquainted with. You could tell that he is proud of his daughter.
It is really a joy when it is time to hand out EHP certificates. I think everyone feels a sense of accomplishment and they should. They have spent around eight hours or so studying together, spent time on the range in extreme heat and given up their entire Saturday. Some drove a good distance so their day was truly used up. We had at least four students drive from as far away as Huntsville and Bay Minette. Actually, there were five counties represented Saturday. I am certainly humbled and appreciative to play a small part in the lives of these people. One thing is for sure, with each class the attendees certainly play a big part in my life.
Another group put through. Good job Billy. “Ya dun good”.
I guess that ole saying when you are doing what you love, you can’t call it working. It is a good feeling when you know that folks take away something more then they came with.
